Our 8-Month-Old

Nine months ago, I slept as much as I wanted, every night of the week. I could sleep in on weekends, go out at night, and see my friends several times each week. I took a shower every morning, took time to blow dry and straighten my hair, put on makeup, and agonized over the right outfit to wear.

Then eight months ago, our little baby Brayden was born and our life was flipped upside down. A good night’s rest became a thing of the past, as did so many aspects of our lives that we had taken for granted. Brayden brought with him a little ball of chaos that has kept us up late at night, driven us crazy, and made us confused, frustrated, happy and proud, sometimes all at the same time. But any inconvenience is so completely overshadowed by overwhelming feelings of love for that little guy that make it all worthwhile.

And I think the fact that the first few months were so tough–the crying, no sleeping, hating car rides, etc.–they kind of helped put everything in perspective and make us that much more grateful for little moments that other parents might take for granted. When I can make it to the store and back without Brayden screaming in his car seat, that is a huge win and will have me walking on cloud nine for the rest of the day. When Brayden didn’t need to be rocked to sleep (this is a very recent occurrence), without ever having to cry-it-out, I did a little happy dance (and so did my back!). The nights when Brayden sleeps at least half the night if not more, peacefully in his crib, we feel so happy I can’t even find words to describe it.

These past eight months have been a whirlwind and so much has changed since we brought our little bundle home, but things are definitely getting less hard and more fun! Here are some highlights of the past month:

-Brayden conquered crawling and decided to go ahead and giving standing a try. He tries to stand all day long, pulling up on the couch or my leg, pushing up on a box or anything else he can find.

-His third and fourth teeth are pushing their way through and will be making their grand appearance any day now.

-Brayden got to try out a swing for the first time and loved it!

  1. Cute cheeks! They are so fun to photograph at this age, aren’t they! My little babe is now 17 months and will hardly sit still…most pics I am able to get of her are of the back of her head because she is moving so fast.
